Loft Conversion Case Study 1 - Derriford back to case studies

Looking at the roof of this conversion it is hard to believe that to alter the roof shape and to install breathable felt, every single slate has been removed and refitted. Great care was taken to grade the slates for thickness so that the roof was perfect when finished.

We stood up both hip-ends into half-hips (or Dutch-hips) to make the full length of the building inside a useable height, but still kept the character of the property. Three pitched roof dormers were constructed to the front of the conversion and three to the rear.

Inside there are two large bedrooms, a luxury shower room and a spacious landing/study area. Every detail was taken into account when matching the new stairway into the existing one.

To achieve this conversion the original dimensions were as follows:

Front to back
8.5m

Measurements

Height
3.6m

Hip wall to Hip wall 12m

Rear of completed house - Three pitched roof dormers
Finished bedroom & pitched roof dormer window
Brand new staircase
Roof before hip end conversion
Roof after hip end conversion to three pitched roof dormers
Newly converted bathroom
